The Michigan Association of Timbermen would like to thank, this site House Speaker Kevin Cotter, this State Representative Joel Johnson, website like this and District Director Sean Lawrenson, for gladly taking the time out of their busy schedules to attend the Maeder Brothers Inc. mill tour last Friday, November 13th. This tour offered great insight for our legislators into what is happening behind mill doors.

Guiding the tour was MAT Treasurer and Maeder Brothers Inc. Manager, Jim Maeder. Jim gave a complete tour of both their pellet mill and sawmill, which has been in business for over 55 years. Guests and legislators were informed on sawmill operations and objectives, and the integral steps taken to produce high quality wood fuel pellets. Along with wood pellets, Maeder Brothers also produce log homes, rough sawn lumber, kiln dried lumber, crane mats, and tongue and groove.

After the tour, the MAT board was able to discuss several important topics with Cotter and Johnson. With agreement on many issues including future energy, industry value, and illegitimate Amish competition, it appeared to be an influential meeting.

Maeder Brothers Inc. tour video clips will be posted to our Facebook page and please enjoy the photos below!
