The Michigan Association of Timbermen

Timber PAC

What is a PAC? PAC is short for Political Action Committee. TimberPAC funds are donated by members and other parties interested in furthering the success of the forest products industry. Why do we need a PAC? New legislators are coming in all the time. This means legislators that have become familiar with our industry and its value to the economy as well as its struggles, are leaving. It is vital to the survival of the forest products industry that we foster these relationships and educate our legislators on our needs so they may be in the best possible position to help us. They need to know what we need!

What success has it had? Thanks to the work of the MAT, its lobbyist and PAC funds, you have a sales tax exemption, use of a log plate, personal property tax exemption, and many more benefits.

What else? Currently we are working on requiring highway medians be timbered, allowing woodlots to receive tax exemptions, and cleaning up the law that allows a slasher table to be moved without air brakes.
